Common questions

What “free” actually means.

Is there a subscription?
No. The desktop studio is free to install and you only pay for the generation runs you actually trigger. You need a Cinegenta account to sign in and track credits, but there's no recurring charge.
How do generation costs work?
Credits are metered. Before each batch the studio shows a live cost estimate based on your project size, model choices, and shot count, so you know what a render will cost before you click go. Buy credits as you need them — they don't expire.
What does a 20-minute film actually cost to generate?
Depends on the models you pick and how much you iterate. As a rough order, a finished minute of film lands in the range of $30–$90 in credits today, so a 20-minute movie is roughly $600–$1,800 end-to-end. Live cost estimates appear on the Setup page before each batch.
Can I buy credits inside the app instead of on the web?
The Mac App Store build uses Apple In-App Purchase for credits. Buying here on the website routes through Stripe and avoids the App Store fee, so the same dollar buys the same credits with less platform overhead.
Can I use Cinegenta without internet?
The desktop app runs locally — editing, timeline work, and review work offline. Generation steps need internet because they call remote model providers.
Is my project data private?
Yes. Cinegenta is local-first — your scripts, characters, frames, and clips all sit in your chosen working directory on your machine. Nothing is uploaded to Cinegenta unless you opt into a hosted tier.
